Molecular Models

Materials

Procedures

  1. Using the model set, construct models of water (dihydrogen monoxide), H2O; ammonia (nitrogen trihydride), NH3; methane (carbon tetrahydride), CH4; oxygen gas; O2; nitrogen gas, N2; carbon dioxide gas, CO2; carbon monoxide gas, CO; and, carbon tetrachloride, CCl4.
  2. Draw the models you have created.
  3. The shape of the water molecule is named bent, the shape of the ammonia molecule is called trigonal pyramidal, and the shape of the methane molecule is termed tetrahedral. Write these names by the matching structures and name the shapes of the rest of the molecules.
